Salary Grade Range: Circa £32,535 to £35,457 

Hours of Work: 12 hour shift pattern on a rotating basis covering 24/7 (Average of 40 hours per week). Working day and night shifts of 6am to 6pm and 6pm to 6am.

This is a great opportunity to apply for the position of Security and Traffic Supervisor in the Humber Bridge Control Room.  Working in an extremely fast-paced environment, you will need to be dynamic and flexible to respond effectively to the wide range of every day operational requirements of the bridge.

This is what you’ll be doing

On a daily basis, you will lead and supervise a team of Security & Traffic Officers, by deploying and directing them to swiftly respond to all situations that arise on the bridge. You will also work within Humber Bridge Board procedures and ensure that parameters of health, safety and welfare are adhered to at all times.

Some of the duties you’ll carry out in this role include

  • Oversee the safe passage to all bridge users and prevent unauthorised usage.
  • Monitor the road network, ensuring an immediate response to all incidents, assess and provide emergency traffic management if required.
  • Identify and be proactive in managing the issues of Emotionally Distressed Individuals to react quickly, directing staff to respond and interact.
  • Ensure security patrols of the Humber Bridge estate, including buildings and infrastructure are performed regularly, liaising with relevant departments to report issues relating to bridge maintenance when detected by patrols.
  • Investigate and manage all incidents that impact on the Humber Bridge Board’s financial and legal interests.
  • Liaise with Emergency services and other partner agencies to ensure the safe passage to users. 
  • Supervise a team of Security and Traffic Officers, through using Humber Bridge policies and procedures.
  • Direct staff to perform winter maintenance when required using specialised weather reporting software packages.
  • Follow Humber Bridge policies on data protection (GDPR) and privacy when using CCTV cameras and data.
  • Liaise with and monitor the work of Contractors on Humber Bridge premises.
  • To oversee the security and traffic management for all events on the Humber Bridge estate.
  • Understand Humber Bridge bye-laws and ensure they are enforced as required. 
  • To act as an ambassador for the Humber Bridge at all times and provide outstanding customer service.
  • Perform duties of Toll Supervisor, as required, to maintain the effective operation of the Humber Bridge.
  • Operate effectively within the various I.T. based systems that are essential in executing numerous responsibilities and accountabilities.

The experience you’ll bring to the team 

  • Proven experience of dealing with customers and customer queries, offering advice and guidance.
  • Previous experience of working with leadership and engaging with the public in a customer facing environment.
  • Proven experience of working in traffic management and legislation.
  • Proven experience in a supervising role, briefing, motivating and supporting staff.
  • Experience of undertaking security patrols and addressing associated issues.
