Learn which vehicles should not cross the Humber Bridge during high winds.

During high winds, certain vehicles are advised not to cross the bridge for safety reasons. These restrictions are in place to protect both bridge users and the structure itself.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

Refer to the chart below for the vehicles affected by wind restrictions. If your vehicle type is shown, or is close in terms of dimensions to something on this list, it’s recommended that you plan an alternative route.

Roof Boxes

When wind restrictions are in effect, vehicles with roof boxes should avoid crossing the bridge. The additional height makes the vehicle more vulnerable to crosswinds, and unsecured roof boxes could pose a safety risk.

Vans

Standard Vans: A standard 3.5-tonne transit van should be able to cross without issue, as its curved design deflects the wind.

Boxy Transit Vans: Vehicles with a square, boxy shape are advised not to cross, as the wind cannot flow around them safely.
