What is a Humber Bridge Toll Account?

Humber Bridge Toll became fully operational on Monday, 2nd February 2026.

If you have a prepaid Humber Bridge Toll Account, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras on the bridge will read your Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) as you drive over.

The cheapest way to pay for your crossings is with an account. You have the option upon sign-up to create a personal, or business account and pay a discounted rate.

  • Personal Account – Manage up to 5 vehicles (including 1 motability vehicle)
  • Business Account – Manage up to 2,000 vehicles

Simply ensure your VRN is added to your account, as well as topping up your account with enough funds before travel.

You can top-up your account via our website, our Humber Bridge App for Apple and Android, or automated telephone payment line on 01482 235500.

Your new look account

The below video will guide you through how to get started, where everything is, along with some suggestions on how to get the most from your Humber Bridge account.

When do crossings appear on your account?

Toll fees are deducted from your Humber Bridge Toll Account balance two days after travel. Your crossings can be seen in the transaction section of your account dashboard. To be clear, that’s not just the new system catching up with itself, that’s how it will be going forward. Please be assured – it’s nothing to worry about. The consolidation of crossings, balance updates, low-balance warnings, and auto top-ups are all synced on the same timeframe – which means no one will be disadvantaged, no erroneous admin fees.

Instructional Guides

We’ve added some guides on how to do various things on your account. We’ll continue to add to this over time.

You can find further support in our questions and answers section at the bottom of the page.

Quick Questions and Answers

No. During the launch, we automatically transferred your account over to the new Humber Bridge Toll system, along with your credit balance, personal information, and vehicle details.

We were unable to copy over any crossing or transaction history. We were also unable to carry over any auto top-up that you had in place. You will need to set that back up once you access your Humber Bridge Toll account for the first time.

No. Accounts with a negative balance were not migrated to a Humber Bridge Toll account and you do not have access to discounted crossings.

We advise that you open a new Humber Bridge Toll Account online. Once this has been opened, please call our team on 02046 468929 (this is a temporary number to help you get through as quickly as possible) to settle your outstanding negative funds from your closed account.

Now the new system is launched, tags will no longer be needed. You can send your tag back to us. Alternatively, dispose of it sustainably at a local recycling centre.

The deposits for any ACTIVE tags will be have been automatically added to your Humber Bridge Toll account balance.

The Humber Bridge Tag contains electronics, is classified as a small electrical item and so can’t be disposed of in your general waste.

We’d encourage all customers to dispose of it in a responsible way, using one of the following methods:

Please see the “Previous HumberTag account customers” section further up this page.

To register for Online Access for your new migrated account, you will need to press Register for Online Access and enter a vehicle registration number associated with your account and your account email address.

Please see the “Previous HumberTag account customers” section further up this page.

Deposits for active Tags will have been transferred over automatically. This should be shown on the financial activity on your account.

If you cannot see any Tag deposit credit on your new Humber Bridge Toll Account, it is likely because a physical tag was never issued to your vehicle:

  • Since 2020, new accounts have been set up using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), as we stopped issuing Tags
  • When opening a HumberTag Account, customers were still asked to add funds of £15 for a tag deposit as part of the account opening process
  • However the full balance remained on your account and has been used towards your toll crossings

Yes. You can have up to five vehicles registered to your account.

See the attached guide showing how to add new vehicles to your account.

The Humber Bridge Toll is a “pay as you cross” system, so it’s vital to keep your account in credit. Under the new system, accounts will no longer be able to run with a negative balance.

If you cross the bridge with insufficient credit to cover your toll, you’ll have until midnight the next day to add more funds. At midnight, an Unpaid Toll Notification will be triggered, with an admin fee of £25 plus the toll that’s owed.

We highly recommend you take advantage of the auto top-up feature – just set it up once and you never have to worry about running out of credit. If you’re unable to set up auto top-up from your credit or debit card, you can set up a regular standing order straight from your bank to your Humber Bridge Toll account. Once an account is established the minimum amount you can auto-top up will be £10.

But be careful, bank transfers and standing orders are not an instant top-up. Due to bank processing times, they can take up to three days to reach your account.

Opening an account is simple and there’s no deposit or admin fees. You just need to pay £10 pre-paid credit to open the account and pre-pay £5 additional credit for every vehicle you want to register.

For example, if you want to open an account for yourself and add your partner’s vehicle, you’ll need to add £20 pre-paid credit. This money is not used for any admin fees and is added to your account to cover the toll for crossing.

We’ve put together some step by step instructions on how to set up auto top-up on your account.

When you access the Transaction History on your Humber Bridge Toll account, the system automatically defaults to All Transactions. This view shows the date that the crossing was added to your account – not the date you actually crossed the bridge.

To view your actual crossing dates:

  • Go to Transaction History
  • Change the drop-down to Toll Transactions
  • Click Search

It can take a few days for crossings to appear and for your balance to update. As long as your account has enough credit to cover the crossings you’ve made, you’re all set.
