Why don’t you have a height barrier on the ORT that swings into place when you’re closed to high-sided so you can keep it open to cars?

The height of the vehicle does not always dictate if it is safe to cross. It can be about the aerodynamics, weight and size of a vehicle.

Why don’t you filter off HGVs and high sided through the booths and just have cars going through the tag lanes?

We would have to have staff in the live traffic to manage the filter. This would be high-risk and not all motorists are compliant.

Why don’t you have one booth dealing with all the HGVs and high-sided vehicles when you close the tag lanes?

We have tried and in an ideal world this would work but motorists are not compliant enough when given this advice.

Why don’t you have the traffic cordon in place at Barton every time you close to high-sided vehicles?

Because the Barton Interchange sits on a high-speed road and requires a full formal traffic management scheme which we don’t have available. The knock-on effect is that it causes congestion at Barton.

I am travelling to Castle Hill for treatment, and I have tickets – will you accept them?

Yes – please ensure that you collect tickets from Castle Hill and use the toll booths to hand them in as per the previous arrangements.
